Patrick McMahon

Patrick McMahon is painter of medium-scale abstractions in acrylics. His work is usually unplanned and begins with repeated washes and gestures until shapes begin to emerge. The painting moves forward, not by thinking through it, but by noticing where and how it comes alive and responding to that. In this regard it is more of a receptive than a creative act. The works he often finds most successful are those that surprise or feel they were not made entirely by his hand.

Patrick earned his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He lives and works in Somerville, MA.
